Bonnie’s belly was flooding with dancing butterflies as she sat across from Adriel. He looked quite handsome with a fresh haircut, moisturized lips, and a bright smile. The white collar shirt he wore flattered his copper-toned skin. They were seated at The Fiftieth One, which was an upscale restaurant in the Boudoir area of St. Parklynn. Bonnie had never been on this side of town, which catered to the affluent people of the city.

The ambiance was relaxed with soft classical music playing in the background and dimmed lights dancing through the grand space. Bonnie had never felt superior in her life until now. Never had she been wined and dined by a handsome man that seemed to be genuinely interested in her. Adriel was tuned into her, asking tons of questions and taking in her answers like he was storing it in his memory bank.

“So you're an only child?” he questioned, chewing on a salad.

Bonnie nodded. “I am. What about you?”

“I have twin sisters but they don't live in St. Parklynn anymore. They moved to Atlanta and attend Spelman.”

“Really? Good for them. Are you guys close?”

He shrugged, “I mean, yeah. We super close when they ass is beggin’ for some shit.”

Bonnie tittered. “Well, that’s what brothers are for.”

“I guess… so what's up with you Bonnie? You really don't have a man?”

“That’s the second time you’ve asked me that question tonight. Do you not believe me?”

He grinned. “I do. I just don't understand why someone as pretty as you is single. Were you in a bad relationship or some shit?”

“Um,” she pondered. “I wouldn’t necessarily call it bad but it just wasn't working out. He didn’t have any ambition and he wanted to be on the block all day. I kind of outgrew him and we decided to part ways with each other.”

Adriel licked his lips while nodding. “I understand that.”

“What about you? How come you're single?”

He swiped his hand over his mouth and chuckled. “That shit is complicated.”

“Well, we have all night, so shoot.”

He sighed. “A’ight… so I had this girl that I had been friends with since high school. I liked her from the beginning, but I didn’t tell her right away because I didn’t want to be rejected. Well, when we finally graduated, I told her my true feelings and like I knew she would, she rejected me. I continued being her friend while fighting my feelings for her until I finally just gave up and decided to move on.”

Bonnie hoped that he’d truly moved on and wasn't just saying it for the hell of it. She didn’t want to be caught in a love triangle with Adriel and his friend.

“Are you two still friends?” she quizzed.

“We are, but we’re not close like we were.”

She breathed a sigh of relief. “Good.”

“But on the real, I'm feeling you though. I'm interested in us getting closer. I mean, that’s if you want to.”

Bonnie couldn’t halt the grin that spread across her mouth. Not only was Adriel handsome but he knew how to hold a conversation and didn’t just seem interested in her body.
